Carlo Maria Mariani
The Carlo Maria Mariani collaboration is a testament to a 20-year friendship between Kaye and Mariani. Known as “the maestro” in Italy, Carlo Maria Mariani was a prominent figure in the Postmodernist movement of the 1980s. His artistic mastery seamlessly blended the illusionistic techniques of Renaissance artists like Raphael with the innovative styles of modernist icons such as Picasso and Duchamp. The influence of Duchamp is particularly evident throughout his work.
The world mourned the loss of a great artist in 2021. To honor his dear friend’s memory, Kaye began collaborating with the Carlo Maria Mariani Foundation. During a trip to Italy in 2022, Kaye met with the Uffizi Museum in Florence and organized an exhibition of Carlo’s work. We are thrilled to announce that the exhibition will take place in October 2024. The Uffizi, one of the most renowned museums in Italy and the world, houses Renaissance masterpieces like Da Vinci’s “Adoration of the Magi,” Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus,” and Caravaggio’s “Medusa.” These Renaissance masterpieces complement Carlo’s Postmodernist work, creating a perfect blend of the past and present.
Collaborating with Carlo’s wife, Carol, and the Carlo Maria Mariani Foundation, we are honored to incorporate Carlo’s artwork into our Fall/Winter 2024 menswear collection. This collection features sweaters, t-shirts, and accessories that creatively utilize Carlo’s paintings. Each piece in the collection pays homage to the artist and his remarkable art, blending timeless artistry with contemporary fashion.
